As Live

After our first term day with Hans, I am feeling a bit more confident and excited about this unit. Though my feeling of fear and slight panic remains also!

He gave us some advice about the pitch (and future job interviews) which was really helpful and made it seem less daunting.

We also discussed all our ideas which I have been craving as I find it difficult to work within my own mind. I have found that discussing my work with friends and family is utterly useless as most of them don't take it seriously and make ridiculous suggestions or are unwilling to provide constructive criticism. So was very eager to share and here everyone else's ideas and I think we all benefited. Afterall, when the successful pitch has been chosen we will all be sharing the same idea so it's good to know what we might be working on.

I have three ideas which I am developing to decide on which I shall pitch.

1) Dating.
My dating game idea concerns itself with the issues of online dating and the dangers of people pretending to be someone they aren't. It's easy to do over the internet but are we easily fooled in person too?
The show would involve a woman or man and a panel of men or women potential dates. Much like other dating formats. Within the panel there would be at least one faker, someone pretending to be someone they aren't.
There would be challenges, questions and games. Which I have yet to think through.

2) Debate.
My debate show idea is "Street View". Like Question Time chooses different cities, Street View would choose a UK Street and residents of that street would be involved in a topical debate/discussion. Obviously the members of the street chosen would be cast for talkers, opposite opinions, opinionated people. They could be young, old, of any race or religion.
There might 1-3 discussions. I have yet to decide. And it could be both current affairs and ongoing worldly debates.

3) Music.
This would be a Jamming Session programme which I would call "Jam". It involves a selection of random, eclectic, unusual and unheard of musicians brought together to make an orchestra/band. There would be people who play all sorts of unknown or rarely featured instruments and even some home made instruments. They would demonstrate their skills (or lack there of) and the host (who would have to be charismatic and musicly inclined) would guide the group of musicians to making a song or such. They could play to images, film, sketches, or recreate current chart hits or just make something up.
It could be interesting and the idea excites me!

So I am currently developing these ideas so I can make a decision as I quite like them all at the moment.

  1. Hi Cat,
the dating idea has been done to an extent in a programme called Straight Eye for the Queer Guy, where a girl was sent away with a load of blokes, some of whom are gay some are straight - but she doesn't know who. she has to pick a straight guy to win. a gay guy wins if he convinces he's straight....
The music one - Jam - sounds cool and doable... almost sounds like Whose line is is anyway for music...?

Street View - i love this. Very simple, but very powerful - IF and its a big IF, you can find a street with the right interesting characters. but i can really see this idea...
    hope that helps.

  2. Definitely like the Street View idea - it is something we could realise (which HAS to be an important consideration!) and - with the right research - could be really nice spin on the Question Time format. Talk to me if you want any guidance on developing this further.
