“Whose Line Is It Anyway?” for music.

Throughout the media we all have a common idea of what instruments make up a band or a set list we could name off the top of our heads. What about those other instruments? The ones that stand out and are usually hidden from the public eye? JAM is a competitive music programme that showcases those odd and unusual instruments and the musicians that play them.

Pianos, guitars, bass guitars and drum-kits have no place on this show. It’s all about the ukeleles, zithers, accordions and home made or adapted instruments. A lot of these unusual instruments take more effort to learn because lessons are more popular for mainstream instruments. JAM allows these devoted musicians to show us why they love their instruments and why they decided to learn to play them.

The pilot will be made up of three rounds which involve three bands of three musicians. It will be hosted by a presenter who will be cast for their charisma and music knowledge. In an ideal world it would be Tim Minchin.

The show will consist of three rounds.

Round 1:
A warm up round for the musicians to get comfortable in their groups and the audience to get relaxed. In this round the audience are asked to shout out suggestions of moods or scenarios that the musicians then have to interpret into music. The presenter chooses the best suggestion.

Round 2:
In this round the musicians are challenged to re-create the mood of a clip from a film or television programme which will be shown in on a screen at the back of the set.

Round 3:
The musicians are challenged to re-interpret current and well know hits by either changing the genre or creating their own version.

Each round is judged by the audience who are asked by the presenter to cheer loudest for the one they liked best. The overall winner wins the chance to meet and jam with their favourite musician. For the pilot this prize would be a custom made trophy.

The set would look grunge like a garage as this is where most bands start out. It will be moody, intimate and raw.
