Today I met up with Luke Frost (Maidstone Campus officer), Steve Martin ( Farnham Campus Officer) and Andy Squire (Communications and Media Coordinator) to brief them about mine and Casey's project.
They are VERY interested in this. If we do it well they want it to be featured in the advice section, which is currently very texty and dry, on their site and we would link it to their facebook.
Steve asked if it was successful would we interested in continuing it. I explained that we would be but we probably wouldn't be able to produce it weekly due to time issues. Steve then asked if we would be interested in taking on a crew to work under us to make the weekly guides under our direction and keeping the style.
They very much liked the 1 minute format because Andy said that whenever they have done things before they have always ended up being 7- 8 mins and quite dry.
Content wise they liked everything we had come up with. Steve had a very particular idea for one. Apparently people at Farnham can never get the UCA email to work on their blackberry's and people are constantly asking how to do it. In fact they have a technician at Farnham who gets it sorted for the staff there. I found this quite interesting as it's a relevant issue with things going multi format now and more and more people wanting to access their email on their phones.
When we were discussing the content, it became clear that all of our ideas have been about the student lifestyle off of campus. And Luke was talking about the council being addressed which would be an on-campus aspect of the lifestyle. So that is something we can consider when it comes to deciding on the content. From the SU perspective they would want more about their role on the campus and would want their information given across in a conversational way
Casting wise they said it would definitely have to be a student, to get that ey would want featured because it could be good to do half on campus and half off campus which would give our series more diversity, we would be addressing the not so interesting on campus stuff in a casual fun way and also the more interesting stuff in a casual fun way.
We really need to get cracking ore planned before term then part of the budget is allocated to them but if it's something that comes up in the year then it has to be sectioned under an already allocated budget, in this case it would go under the campaigning budget. However if it was a planned thing he said the budget allocated for it probably wouldn't be anymore than £300- £400. I said I assumed that if it was a student thing they would do it for free but the uni don't like getting students to things for free apparently. Which is good.
There were a few things I wasn't sure how to answer, mainly about the site or page or youtube channel. It gets very confusing talking both hypothetically and in reality. I had to explain both what would happen hypothetically and what would happen in reality and I think I got myself confused.
So I left the meeting feeling excited, nervous and a bit confused. I have Andy's email address and he is going to send me the exact colours they use, the fonts and the logo.
I will also email them about any other on campus guides they would want featured because it could be good to do half on campus and half off campus which would give our series more diversity, we would be addressing the not so interesting on campus stuff in a casual fun way and also the more interesting stuff in a casual fun way.
We really need to get cracking on this to give them a good idea of what this will look like and also for the episodes relevant to timing we should address them adn see if they can be uploaded sooner.
Looking forward to hearing from Casey about her thoughts, then we can get cracking on casting.
(( AS you can see below, blogger decided to muck up when I tried to post, so if there are any sentences repeated or half sentences that's why, tried to fix it, had to delete all the %20's. Great fun.))
all sounds great, im a little confuzzled by a few things so i'll need to talk to you about it all. Also, i reeeally dont want to use a student for presenting, ive been thinking about it, and i just think it will feel so studenty and unoriginal and flat with a student.. i dont know! I'll try and give you a call or meet up on friday to discuss things. its my last week here next week so then I am fully at your beck and call!
ReplyDeleteBut well done for the meeting!
