Pre-Production: I CAN do it.

So I should really read articles I post. I put a link to a screen daily article on my previous post about this.

The title was "Hugh Bonneville to star in adaptation of Peter James' Dead Simple".

So it just confirmed to me what I had read on the peter james blog and it being Hugh Bonneville I assumed it was for television. But it's not!

It turns out the posts on the peter james blog are from years ago. In 2008 James signed a deal with ITV to have the books adapted to television but it never came about. BBC scotland were also interested and so was Roman Polanski. It seems that James felt that television couldn't do his books justice or that television didn't get it:

“The reason the books have been successful is that they get away from the typical plodding police procedural, that Agatha Christie kind of thing where you start with the body in the library,” said James. “My books are thrillers although they have police procedure in them. British television just didn’t seem to get it.”

So he is producing it as a film. There isn't much about it on IMDb yet but it has a page and is in pre- production. For film, not TV. And I think that Hugh Bonneville is not right for the role of Roy Grace. So I think I shall give this a go!

Now to find out how to adapt stuff successfully.
