Just watched Crazy, Stupid, Love for the second time. Directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa.
I noticed some interesting techniques in the bar scenes. 1, a continuous shot through the bar showing 'Cal Weaver' with a different woman in different places around the bar to show that he was acting like Jacob and being a womanizer.
Also there was a bit where Jacob watches Cal from across the bar as Cal whines on about his wife sleeping with David Lindhagen and it goes from medium shot to close mid, to close but only changes when someone walks across the front of the shot to block it. So it was like the David Fincher-esque technique of transition through walls by tracking into blackness but they used the blocking out of extras! Very clever. It made the jumps in seamless and nearly unnoticable. It's a great 'attention focus' method (not that anyone WOULDNT have been staring at Ryan Gosling's face already) but yeah, it really drew the focus in, without being too obvious about it.
